MORE OAR: a tribute to the SKIP SPENCE album.Various Artists, including Beck, Greg Dulli, Jay Farrar, Robyn Hitchcock, Robert Plant, the Minus Five, Mudhoney and Tom WaitsThe late Alexander "Skip" Spence - the fractured genius who co-founded Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape in the mid-sixties only tosee his life and career come crashing down several years later due to his mental illness - will be paid-tribute when Andrew Lauder's Jericho Records releases 'More Oar: A Tribute To The Alexander 'Skip Spence Album" on August 9. 'Oar' was Spence's little-heard 1969 solo album, which he recorded in Nashville in a single day and is regarded by the small coterie of fans and musicians who know it as something of a classic. 'Oar' is one of the great crazy-genius-type records out there - one of my all time favourites," says Steve Turner of Mudhoney, which performs the song "War And Peace". The tribute also features Robert Plant, Tom Waits, Robyn Witchcock, Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs, on Volt's Jay Ferrar, The Minus Five and Beck. The album is a project that executive producer Bill Bentley has spent several years trying to put together. 'This album is really for people who love esoteric music," he says, 'Hopefully people will love this and then go find 'Oar'. That's the way I'm trying to present this."
